What you absolutely need to know
Personalization and discovery: Users can now customize the type of Reels they want to see and find it more easily.
Contextual labels and ranking: New labels explain why certain reels are displayed and an improved ranking is better suited to user preferences.
Easier storage: Facebook is testing new methods to make it easier to save Reels for later viewing.

Reels is a feature that allows you to scroll through and discover various types of content in an exciting and fun way. Similar to a video story, you are presented with short videos that you can simply swipe through. It's a mix of funny clips, inspiring stories, informative contributions and much more. The content is personalized based on your interests, preferences and the behavior of other users.

One of the most exciting features of Reels is the ability to discover new topics and interests. The platform analyses your preferences and presents you with content that matches your interests, but also broaden your horizons. This allows you to find new inspiration and be surprised by different content.

Reels also allows you to personalize your online experience on Facebook. You can rate the content you particularly like with a “like” thumbs up and let the algorithm know that you want to see more of it. You can also share, comment, and save posts to revisit later. All of these interactions help Facebook better understand your preferences and present you with more relevant content.

Meta is now introducing a new option to personalize Facebook Reels to give users a more personalized video experience. These new features make it easier for users to save Reels and choose which type of Reels they want to see more or less often. This allows users to access relevant content even faster. Facebook also improves the findability of short videos by adding Reels to the main Facebook Watch navigation. Users can now seamlessly scroll between Reels and longer content. Facebook is also introducing contextual labels that explain to users why they see certain reels. Facebook is also testing various ways to make it easier to save Reels so that users can watch their favorites again at a later date. These new features and options give users more control over their video experience and enable them to discover relevant content and engage with other users.

Let's take a closer look at what new opportunities the changes offer you.

Discover relevant Facebook Reels:

There have been changes to how Reels appear in Facebook Watch. By integrating Reels into Facebook Watch's main navigation, you can now access short videos faster and discover creators, trends, and content that match your interests. In addition, you can now seamlessly scroll through reels and longer content when watching videos.

Facebook Reels: New opportunities for personalization and interaction:

Similar to other personalization options on Facebook, Reels now gives you more control. You can now specify which types of reels you want to see more or less often. Simply click on the three-dot menu icon at the bottom of the video player and select either “Show more” or “Show less.” This option is available both under Reels and under the videos in your Watch Feed. If you select “Show more,” the ranking of the reel and similar content will temporarily increase. If you select “Show less,” the ranking value will drop temporarily. Your direct feedback makes it possible to rank the reels more intelligently, which is more tailored to your preferences. In addition, contextual labels are introduced in the Reels video player that tell you why you're watching a particular reel. For example, it could be that it was “liked” by a friend.

Save Facebook Reels to watch later:

In selected markets, various options are being tested to make it easier to save reels. For example, you can watch your favorite reels again at a later date. In addition to the “Like”, Share and Comment options, the video player now also has a new “Save” option.

With new options for personalizing and discovering Reels, Facebook gives you an even more personalized and exciting video experience.
